The ancient art of food
Our company was founded by director and master chef, Man Kin Ho, who came to The Netherlands in the 70’s as an art student. He grew up in Hong Kong in a family with a strong culinary heritage.
In order to finance his career as an artist Ho took a job in a Chinese restaurant where he was soon to discover that Chinese cuisine in the West greatly differed from the Chinese which was enjoyed in Hong Kong and China. He wanted to change that, so he decided to apply his artistic skill and talent to cooking. In 1976 he and his wife, Betty, opened their first restaurant, Shanghai Noodle, in Amsterdam’s China Town.
The traditional dishes were greatly appreciated by their guests, so much so, that Ho felt it was time to expand and share ‘his’ food culture. In 1981 he opened Restaurant Treasure at Amsterdam city centre’s Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. Fellow restaurateurs and food critics lauded Ho’s dishes for their flavour and presentation.
Dim Sum became so popular that in 1990 Mr and Mrs Ho decided to open a small factory in Amstelveen, Treasure Dim Sum Products Ltd. Due to the increasing demand for Ho’s Dim Sum, the factory outgrew itself in no time. Consequently in 1995 the family decided to build a new factory. Comprising more than 2000 square meters, the premises were further extended in 2010.
Ho always regarded his dishes and his Dim Sum as an art form. He not only focused on the combination of flavours and palate, but also on the presentation of his dishes. Graduating in 2011 from Beijing Fine Art Academy, he has resumed his career as an artist.
In 2013/2014, Ho exhibited his artwork together with fellow artist and friend, Aad Velthoen (†09-12-2018).
On 13 August 2019 Man Kin Ho deceased, leaving the world behind with his heritage: workmanship, perfectionism and creativity, contained in the tastes and aromas of his memorable culinary dishes and dim sum, as well as in his paintings and calligraphies.
It is this culinary heritage, yet after Ho retired, that has been and will continuously be preserved and secured by the next generation Ho family members.
